Home About

Busy Fingers is a friendly, popular pre-school based in the village of Little Downham, near Ely.

The pre-school was established in 1995 and is currently managed by Jennie and her team, with the help of a voluntary committee, made up mainly of parents of children attending the setting. We are registered on the Early Years Register and both parts of the Childcare Register. We operate from a purpose-built building next to Downham Feoffees Primary Academy.

We accept children from aged two years six months to under five years. A maximum of 30 children may attend the pre-school at any one time, in morning, afternoon or all-day sessions, made up of children in their own school-year peer group. The pre- school is open five days a week during school term times.

At Busy Fingers our aim is to provide the children who attend with a happy, safe, secure and stimulating environment in which they can develop emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually. We aim to provide a setting where we shall enhance development and education by building on from what individual children know and can do.

Our premises consist of a purpose built building offering a bright spacious area for activities and a special designated area for ‘wet’ and ‘messy’ play. We also have a carpeted area for the ‘home corner’, role play and floor activities and a ‘quiet’ room where the book corner is situated. There are child friendly toilets as well as full disabled access throughout the building.
Our outside area consists of astro turf with fixed play apparatus and a large covered area fitted with paving slabs suitable for wheeled toys. The large roof overhangs this area so provides shade on hot days and shelter on wet days. We also have a large sandpit, gardening area. a playhouse and a firm favourite, “Messy Kitchen”.
